{"id":4243,"date":"2005-11-28T13:40:16","date_gmt":"2005-11-28T17:40:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/formerlyknownas\/2005\/11\/28\/the-so-called-war-on-christma"},"modified":"2011-08-05T14:54:22","modified_gmt":"2011-08-05T18:54:22","slug":"the-so-called-war-on-christmas-and-chicken-little-too","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2005\/11\/28\/the-so-called-war-on-christmas-and-chicken-little-too\/","title":{"rendered":"the so-called &#8220;war on christmas&#8221; &#8212; and chicken little, too"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"a5413\" name=\"a5413\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">There they go again: the most powerful religious group in America <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">is feeling persecuted, exiled and offended, because some local <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">governmental units are displaying &#8220;Holiday Trees&#8221; and some <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">retail stores are wishing customers a &#8220;Happy Holiday Season.&#8221;  <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">See &#8220;<\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/today.reuters.com\/news\/newsarticle.aspx?type=domesticNews&amp;storyid=2005-11-25T225326Z_01_KRA582362_RTRUKOC_0_US-LIFE-TREE.xml&amp;rpc=22\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Boston &#8216;holiday tree&#8217; stirs controversy<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">,&#8221; <em>Reuters\/USNews<\/em> (Nov.25, 2005);  The article &#8220;<\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.statesman.com\/opinion\/content\/insight\/stories\/11\/27waronxmas.html\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Is there a &#8216;war on Christmas?<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"><font size=\"2\">&#8220;, <em>Austin American <\/em><\/font><\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"><font size=\"2\"><em>Journal<\/em>, Nov. 27, 2005), begins: <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Fox News commentator Bill O&#8217;Reilly believes the greeting <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;Happy Holidays&#8221; offends Christians celebrating the Christmas <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">season. <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/KCAn.gif\" alt=\"KCAn\" \/><\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;It absolutely does. And I know that for a fact,&#8221; he declared on <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">his cable television program, &#8220;The O&#8217;Reilly Factor.&#8221; <\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">This alleged secularist conspiracy has even left Prof. <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.professorbainbridge.com\/2005\/11\/a_war_on_christ.html\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Bainbridge unable<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">to exercise his customary analytical faculties, as he wonders why a <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">city might have a &#8220;Holiday Tree&#8221; (some of his Commentors do a good job <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">of <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">helping Steve understand the issue).   Prof. B. is even raising the issue <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">three weeks earlier than last year (see <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.professorbainbridge.com\/2004\/12\/good_for_arnold.html\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">good for Arnold<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">, Dec. 20, 2004) <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">At the time, <em>f\/k\/a<\/em>&#8216;s Editor <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2004\/12\/21#a2984\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">opined<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> (Dec. 21, 2004): <\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><font size=\"2\">      I won&#8217;t let all those who are irked by Generic <\/font><font size=\"2\">Holiday Greetings <\/font><font size=\"2\">[e.g., Ken <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/crimlaw.blogspot.com\/2004\/12\/happy-season.html\"><font color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">Lammers<\/font><\/a><font size=\"2\">, <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.professorbainbridge.com\/2004\/12\/good_for_arnold.html\"><font color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">Prof. B.<\/font><\/a><font size=\"2\">]  keep me from wanting all Americans <\/font><font size=\"2\">to <\/font><font size=\"2\">celebrate this Season <\/font><font size=\"2\">without feeling religiously incorrect, com<\/font><font size=\"2\">promised <\/font><font size=\"2\">or left out. . . . . <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><font size=\"2\">      This weblog has <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2004\/11\/09#a2687\"><font color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">never<\/font><\/a><font size=\"2\"> been reluctant to poke fun at <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2004\/04\/10#a1192\"><font color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">extremes<\/font><\/a><font size=\"2\"> of <\/font><font size=\"2\">politically <\/font><font size=\"2\">correct <\/font><font size=\"2\">language.  But, attempts to make this Holiday Season &#8212; <\/font><font size=\"2\">clearly the most important <\/font><font size=\"2\">celebration for our nation &#8212; all-inclusive do not <\/font><font size=\"2\">seem silly to me, regardless of the <\/font><font size=\"2\">Constitutional dimensions of the debate.  <\/font><font size=\"2\">Indeed, shopping sprees and Santa suits <\/font><font size=\"2\">have done far more to <\/font><font size=\"2\">&#8220;take <\/font><font size=\"2\">the <\/font><font size=\"2\">Christ out <\/font><font size=\"2\">of Christmas&#8221; than a slew of First Amendment <\/font><font size=\"2\">law suits could <\/font><font size=\"2\">ever do.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/WarOnXmasN.gif\" alt=\"WarOnXmasN\" \/>  Instead of chilling out and wishing good will to all humans, evangelical <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">and conservative &#8220;Christians&#8221; have mounted a war of their own.  Besides <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Bill O&#8217;Reilly telling folks they <em>should<\/em> be offended, Fox News anchor John <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Gibson came out with the book <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1595230165\/102-9892500-1392132?v=glance&amp;n=283155&amp;tagActionCode=satisfactiong-20\"><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">The War on Christmas<\/font><\/em><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> in October.  And, <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"><font size=\"2\"><em>The Conservative Voice<\/em> <\/font><\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theconservativevoice.com\/articles\/article.html?id=10292\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">says<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> you should &#8220;Read, consider and act upon <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">it!&#8221; (Its columnist, Michael J. Gaynor, complains that the front windows <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">at Sax 5th Avenue &#8220;focused on concepts like unity, harmony and beauty. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Nothing about Christmas.&#8221;) <\/font><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Meanwhile, Rev. Jerry Falwell is threatening <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article.aspx?ref=510132\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">lawsuits<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> over arboreal nomenclature, <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">and <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lc.org\/\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">The Liberty Counsel<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> has mounted the rather non-inclusive &#8220;<\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lc.org\/misc\/friend_or_foe.htm\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Friend or Foe<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8221; <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Christmas Campaign.  In his <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.metrowestdailynews.com\/columnists\/view.bg?articleid=115415&amp;format=text\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">column<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> &#8220;Friend or Foe of Christmas,&#8221; Rick Holmes <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"><font size=\"2\">says in reply (<em>MetroWestDaily News<\/em>, Nov. 27, 2005):  <strong> <\/strong><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Pity the poor person at the cash register. A friendly greeting has <\/font><\/em><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">become a step onto the thin ice of political correctness: What <\/font><\/em><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">should she say at the end of every transaction: &#8220;Merry Christmas,&#8221; <\/font><\/em><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">or &#8220;Happy Holidays&#8221;?  . . . .<\/font><\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Falwell&#8217;s agenda isn&#8217;t about protecting the traditional place of religion <\/font><\/em><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">in American culture, it&#8217;s about expanding it and claiming it for themselves. <\/font><\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">They don&#8217;t want to educate people about the First Amendment, they <\/font><\/em><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">want to intimidate people into acknowledging Christianity as America&#8217;s <\/font><\/em><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">only legitimate religion.  <\/font><\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">They want that store cashier to say &#8220;Merry Christmas&#8221; or feel guilty <\/font><\/em><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">about not saying it. What&#8217;s next, mandatory prayer at the checkout? <\/font><\/em><em><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><br \/>\n<\/font><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/KCAg.gif\" alt=\"KCAg\" \/>  Naturally, in any American War, there are <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/tencommandments.faithweb.com\/Keep-Christ-in-Christmas.html\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">bumper stickers<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">and <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">magnets &#8212; such as the &#8220;<\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/tencommandments.faithweb.com\/Keep-Christ-in-Christmas.html\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Keep <\/font><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/tencommandments.faithweb.com\/Keep-Christ-in-Christmas.html\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Christmas Alive<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8221; Campaign.   Their <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.keepchristmasalive.org\/kca.html\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">proganda<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">machine is busy with broadsides like <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.keepchristmasalive.org\/docs\/Christophobia.pdf\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Why all the Christophobia at Christmas?<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">  <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">I have no illusions about changing anyone&#8217;s mind.  Here are a few not-so-random <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">thoughts: <\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/tinycheck.gif\" alt=\"tiny check\" \/>  Despite the <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article.aspx?ref=510132\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">protestation<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> of Phillip D. Powell, a member of the Harvard-<\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Radcliffe Christian Fellowship &#8212; who says, &#8220;This is the Christmas season, <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">and Dec. 25 is Christmas, not some general feel-good day of celebration\u201d &#8212; <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">there actually is a <em>very lengthy holiday season<\/em> in the United States.  It <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">starts at least as early as Thanksgiving and continues at least through <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">New Year&#8217;s Day, with related &#8220;shopping seasons&#8221; extended on either <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">end of the period.  (<em>e.g.<\/em>, Dong Zhi, Kwanza, Hanukkah, and Diwali) Some <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">of these feasts are clearly non-religious, many are surely non-Christian, <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">and some of the Christian ones are <em>not<\/em> Christmas.  Just why in the name <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">of America and God should a municipality, much less a department store,  <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">have to lump them all together <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">under the rubric of &#8220;Christmas&#8221;?<\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"><font size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/WarOnXmas.gif\" alt=\"WarOnXmas\" \/>  <em>nope<\/em><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/tinycheck.gif\" alt=\"tiny check\" \/>  Although Mr. Gaynor at the Conservative Voice <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theconservativevoice.com\/articles\/article.html?id=10292\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">believes<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> it&#8217;s relevant that <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;America\u2019s greatest chief justice, John Marshall, proclaimed in 1833: &#8216;The <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">American population is entirely Christian, and with us Christianity and Religion <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">are identified,&#8221; I believe it is more relevant that there are now many non-Christians, <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">ex-<\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Christians and secularists in 2005 America.  The government is not required <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">to do everything it can, short of breaking the First Amendment, on behalf of Christ<\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">ianity.<\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/tinycheck.gif\" alt=\"tiny check\" \/>  Those who know the Bible better than I will have to tell me why the <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Jesus who &#8220;entered into the temple of God, and drove out all of those who <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the money changers&#8217; tables <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">and the seats of those who sold the doves,&#8221; and who protected the Gentile <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">pilgrims (<\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/bible.cc\/matthew\/21-12.htm\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Matthew 21-12<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">), would want &#8220;His&#8221; people wasting their time <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">on the naming of decorations and the wording of good wishes, rather than <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">working to reverse the universal connection in America of His birth with the <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">most crass commercialism and greed. If you <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">want to pre-empt a clerk saying &#8220;Happy Holidays,&#8221; why not wear a <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;Merry Christmas&#8221; button on your lapel rather than a &#8220;you talkin&#8217; to <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">me?!&#8221; chip on your shoulder?<\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/ChickenLittleDis2005.jpg\" alt=\"ChickenLittle2005\" \/> Finally, if the religious Right wants to aim its paranoia at a more appropriate <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">target, I suggest <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/disney.go.com\/disneypictures\/chickenlittle\/\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><em>Chicken Little<\/em><\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">.   Just why is Hollywood trying to turn an <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">obviously <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/66.102.7.104\/search?q=cache:lY3vP3Aybt8J:www.geocities.com\/mjloundy\/+%22Chicken+Little%22&amp;hl=en\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">false prophet<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> into a hero?  And, why are they using such a <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/chicken_little\/?critic=rotten\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">stinky<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">flick?
