Many states have done nothing.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Palatino Linotype\">Only Oregon requires that lawyers carry malpractice insurance.<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT size=\"2\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT face=\"Palatino Linotype\"><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT size=\"2\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT face=\"Palatino Linotype\"><FONT face=\"Arial\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">HALT has also issued a <A href=\"www.iardc.org\/malpracticeinfo.html\">Consumer Advisory<\/A>&nbsp;for California, reminding folk<\/FONT> <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">that&nbsp; <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/fullmoonneg.gif\" alt=\"full moon neg\" \/><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT size=\"2\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT face=\"Palatino Linotype\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">Governor Arnold must decide in the next few weeks whether to sign important <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">legislation:<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">California is one signature away from enacting an important small <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">claims reform bill. The state legislature has passed two identical bills, <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">Assembly Bill 1459 and Senate Bill 422, which would increase the <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">amount for which individuals could sue in small claims court from <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">$5,000 to $7,500, the state&#8217;s first increase in 15 years. The legislation <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">would also mandate improved training for small claims judges and <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">would increase the availability of court-provided translators and <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">advisors in small claims courts.&nbsp; <\/FONT><\/DIV><\/BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">As HALT says, &#8220;These bills are a real opportunity for California to expand the <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">availability of the one court that actually works well for ordinary people.&#8221; To<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">contact Gov.
