I spent some time at Prawsfblawg<\/font><\/a> <\/em>this afternoon, where the discussion <\/font><\/p>\n

is “should we scrap the third year of law school<\/a>?” — in response <\/font>to the current <\/font><\/p>\n

Legal Affairs Debate<\/em> Club topic<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/a>, featuring <\/font>Laura Appleman<\/font><\/a> and <\/font>Daniel Solove<\/font><\/a>. <\/font><\/p>\n

I’m bemused by Laura’s assertion that law schools have a financial <\/font>interest in <\/font><\/p>\n

keeping the three-year system, while law professors are interested in the <\/font><\/p>\n

teaching and mentoring benefits of the longer matriculation period. I weighed <\/font><\/p>\n

in on the (in)appropriateness of reducing the number of law students in response <\/font><\/p>\n

to <\/font>a supposed oversupply. (My contention: there’s plenty of unmet demand for <\/font><\/p>\n

lawyers, but the profession prices itself out of the reach of most Americans.)<\/font><\/p>\n

It’s disappointing that there seems to be no law professors who are haiku poets.<\/font><\/p>\n

Lucky for us, though, professors in many other fields have turned their talents <\/font><\/p>\n

to haiku. A prime example, psychologist George Swede<\/a>:<\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
