One<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> description <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gio.gov.tw\/info\/festival_c\/moon_e\/moon.htm\">explains<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\">The clear and radiant moon has been a subject of Chinese<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> poetry and song since ancient times. And the moonlight of<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> Mid-Autumn Festival brings particular warmth and ease to<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> the hearts of the people of China. This festival is said to have<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> originated from the ancient ceremony of Sacrificing to the <\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\">Moon Goddess. When that ceremony was later combined<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> with the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gio.gov.tw\/info\/festival_c\/moon_e\/html\/eat.htm\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\">Legend of Eating Mooncakes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\">, Mid-Autumn Festival<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> grew in the popular consciousness to become the major<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> occasion that it is today.<\/span><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span><span> <\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/MooncakeFamilyG001.gif\" alt=\"MAFfamily\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> &#8220;When the moon is full, mankind is one&#8221; &#8212; In China, the full <\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\">moon has always represented the gatherings of friends and<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> family. Thus, Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for family reunions.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> On this night, families will go together to scenic spots and parks<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> for moon appreciation parties, eating mooncakes and <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\">pomeloes<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> in the cool night air and praying for a safe year.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\">History buffs will enjoy the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gio.gov.tw\/info\/festival_c\/moon_e\/html\/eat.htm\">mooncake legend<\/a> and its mythic part in helping with the revolt of the Han people against the Mongol Yuan Dynasty.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\">Yesterday afternoon, I went shopping for moon cakes and I had my very first<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\"> one <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: x-small\">last night (actually, an entire 4000-calorie package of them).
