(<A href=\"http:\/\/www.newsday.com\/news\/local\/wire\/ny-bc-ny--dodgeballontrial1119nov19,0,5069559.story?coll=ny-ap-regional-wire\"><FONT color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">Lawsuit aims to put dodgeball on <FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\">trial<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;(<EM>Newsday<\/EM>\/AP, Nov. 19, 2004)<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"><EM><STRONG><FONT color=\"red\">Updates<\/FONT><\/STRONG><\/EM>: (Nov. 21): Walter Olson treats this topic <A href=\"http:\/\/www.overlawyered.com\/archives\/001739.html\">here<\/A>.<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">(Nov. 22, 2004): <A href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dodgeball\">Wikipedia<\/A> has a good, brief history of &#8220;dodgeball&#8221; and has this<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">to say about the current Controversy:<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;Dodgeball, when it emerged, was touted as the &#8220;nerd&#8217;s sport&#8221;.&nbsp;&nbsp;Since players <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">normally were not part of a team, no player had to endure the teasing that would <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">fall upon a player accused of &#8220;causing the team to lose&#8221;. As well, the game was <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">seen as having a light-hearted and self-deprecatory nature and, therefore, more <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">amenable to non-athletic students. <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;Ironically, dodgeball has come under attack for failing to meet the needs of precisely <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">those students.
