{"id":4069,"date":"2003-12-06T12:59:11","date_gmt":"2003-12-06T16:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/formerlyknownas\/2003\/12\/06\/hitting-six-digits-is-cool\/"},"modified":"2011-08-05T15:00:36","modified_gmt":"2011-08-05T19:00:36","slug":"hitting-six-digits-is-cool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2003\/12\/06\/hitting-six-digits-is-cool\/","title":{"rendered":"Hitting Six Digits is Cool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a366'><\/a><\/p>\n<p><P><FONT face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Yes, the numbers are <A href=\"http:\/\/civpro.blogs.com\/civil_procedure\/2003\/11\/nobody_here_but.html\">meaningless<\/A> <EM>and<\/EM> <A href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2003\/10\/04#a313\">misleading<\/A>, but I have to admit it was very cool to check&nbsp;the Weblogs at Harvard Law&nbsp;Top Sites page last night and find my <A href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/berkman\/topsites?sort=alltime\">All Time<\/A> page hits to have pushed over the 100,000 mark.&nbsp;&nbsp; Small potatoes (and mini-pixels) compared to the Big Names in weblogging, but not bad for an unknown, prematurely-retired lawyer who started doing this&nbsp;six months ago and basically complains (at great length)&nbsp;about the legal profession.&nbsp; Cool.&nbsp; Neat.&nbsp; Meaningless.&nbsp; And a <EM>long<\/EM> way before I get another digit.<\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Arial\" color=\"red\" size=\"2\"><STRONG>P.S.&nbsp; <\/STRONG><FONT color=\"black\">Speaking of web page hits, <A href=\"http:\/\/www.williamsonday.com\/archives\/000126.html\">A Web Undone 2<\/A> pointed yesterday to a&nbsp;very interesting article by Clay Shirkey on <A href=\"http:\/\/www.socallawblog.com\/archives\/001128.html\">Power Laws, Weblogs and Inequality<\/A>.&nbsp;<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><br \/>\n<P><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><EM><STRONG>p.p.s.<\/STRONG><\/EM> <FONT face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\">(Sept. 10, 2005):&nbsp; For several months now, I&#8217;ve been using two (free) services that <\/FONT><\/FONT><FONT face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\">count &#8220;unique visitors.&#8221;&nbsp; It appears that actual visitors are about 50% of my &#8220;page loads,&#8221;
