Yesterday, however, she &#8212;&nbsp;admittedly &#8212; <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">got &#8220;a little carried away&#8221; in a ranty piece called <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/civpro.blogs.com\/civil_procedure\/2005\/05\/legal_lies.html\"><STRONG><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"#42aac8\" size=\"2\">Legal Lies<\/FONT><\/STRONG><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"> (May 21, 2005).&nbsp; It&#8217;s Sherry&#8217;s<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">passionate plea that lawyers &#8220;recognize that our young people look up to the lawyers<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">who have come before them, and we owe it to them to tell the truth whenever possible.&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">Besides the basic wrongheadedness of many of her points, and the total failure to suggest <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">alternative solutions, I have two main problems&nbsp;with&nbsp;Sherry&#8217;s litany of complaints:<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<UL><br \/>\n<LI><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">She assumes an infantile&nbsp;passivity and ignorance, along with a lack of both <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">curiosity and reponsibility, on behalf of college and law students; that&#8217;s&nbsp;insulting <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">to them and, if true,&nbsp;unacceptable in people who want to be attorneys for others;<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\">(see<\/FONT> <A href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/stories\/storyReader$3679\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"black\" size=\"2\">prior post<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">, &#8220;Homework for Law School Appplicants;&#8221;&nbsp;and<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<LI><br \/>\n<DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">She&nbsp;(mis)characterizes the attitudes of a portion of the legal profession (sometimes&nbsp;just <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">one or two weblog writers) and then attributres them to the&nbsp;entire profession.<\/FONT><\/DIV><\/DIV><\/LI><\/UL><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/LureLawN.jpg\" alt=\"LureLawN\" \/> I would have ignored &#8220;<EM>Legal Lies<\/EM>&#8221; as just a little blowing off of steam by our charming <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">spinner <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">of tales, but the enthusiastic&nbsp;response of her Commentors (<EM>e.g<\/EM>., <A href=\"http:\/\/yeomanlawyer.blogspot.com\/2005\/05\/single-best-commentary-on-nature-of.html\"><FONT color=\"black\">here<\/FONT><\/A>) seems to cry out for <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">rebuttal.. . . .<\/FONT>&nbsp;
