<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">A poetry with the simple aim of making us aware of life&#8217;s simple gifts <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">and everyday joys?&nbsp; An antidote to irony, consumerism, and narcissism?&nbsp; <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">A kind of poetry in which the best journals invited all excellent work, no <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">matter who the writer knew or did not know?<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8220;Where does the responsibility lie for safeguarding the integrity and reputation <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">of the bar?&nbsp; Obviously, with the bar associations, which have long held themselves <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">out as far more than mere social organizations for those &#8216;called to the bar.&#8217;&nbsp; . . Few <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">economic developments or government actions are harmful or helpful to all lawyers . . .&nbsp; <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">But anything that harms the reputation of the bar harms all lawyers; anything that<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">helps the reputation of the bar helps all lawyers.&#8221;&nbsp; [at 139]<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8220;The feeling that lawyers are not trustworthy is the most debilitating aspect of public <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">(and client) attitudes today, but most lawyers feel themselves directly affected by it <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">only on rare occasions.&nbsp; Their own clients trust them &#8212; and should &#8212; and in their own <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">work they stay easily within the envelope of the rules.&nbsp; But there is one area where few<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">lawyers can avoid discomfort when looking at their profession.&nbsp; The rhetoric of the <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">profession has long insisted that our system is one of &#8216;justice for all,&#8217; that our court must <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">not &#8216;ration justice,&#8217; but the visible truth is that we are not living up to our professed beliefs.&#8221;&nbsp; <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">[at 145] <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/SolLinowitz.gif\" alt=\"SolLinowitz\" \/>&nbsp; by <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2005\/03\/19#a3491\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">Sol M.
