As we approach Law Day, bar associations across the nation will be heard <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
congratulating themselves on all they do to promote justice and protect the public.  <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
(see <\/FONT>our post<\/FONT><\/A>)  At this weblog, “we” think such self-aggrandizement should be <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
avoided in favor of a bit of soul-searching.   Most bar groups spend much of <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
their time acting like<\/FONT> <\/FONT>guilds<\/STRONG><\/FONT><\/A> — promoting the interests of their members, and <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
“protecting” <\/FONT>the public from competition, information, innovation and choice.  Maybe<\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
Law Day 2005 (May 1st) can be an occasion to re-align our priorities and become <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
public service organizations, improving the profession for the sake of our clients, <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
the justice system and the entire public.  <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n

\n
