<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">a tangent&nbsp;last week, with&nbsp;his <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\"><FONT color=\"black\">guest posting at <EM>Legal Ethics Forum<\/EM><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">on &#8220;<A href=\"http:\/\/legalethicsforum.typepad.com\/blog\/2005\/04\/andrew_perlman__1.html#comments\">Misleading Law School Promotional Materials<\/A>&#8221; (April 13, 2005) &nbsp;<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">So, I thought I better at least get a posting out of it.&nbsp; <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">It seems Andy is worried that shady law school promotional tactics are&nbsp;&nbsp; <IMG height=\"49\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/Mailneg001.jpg\" width=\"70\" border=\"0\"><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">misleading and unfairly&nbsp;enticing the nation&#8217;s law school applicants.&nbsp;To avoid <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">hypocrisy and unpleasantly surprised students or graduates, Andy wants to apply <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">the same &#8220;strict&#8221; advertising criteria to schools that are applied to lawyers (although <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">he thinks the restrictions should be lifted from lawyers).&nbsp;&nbsp;I wasn&#8217;t sure that the <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">crisis was as big as Andy suggested, or that we should worry too much about <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">law school applicants (since they can and should protect themselves);&nbsp;check out <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><A href=\"http:\/\/legalethicsforum.typepad.com\/blog\/2005\/04\/andrew_perlman__1.html#comments\"><STRONG><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"black\" size=\"2\">our conversation<\/FONT><\/STRONG><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\"> at <EM>LEF.<\/EM><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">After doing a bit of research and reflection, I&nbsp;came to the following conclusions:&nbsp; <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><IMG height=\"12\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/tinycheck.gif\" width=\"15\" border=\"0\"> Naturally, it&#8217;s absolutely improper for law schools to be using deceptive <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">tactics&nbsp;in&nbsp;the admissions process&nbsp;&nbsp;[<EM>unless<\/EM> used to weed out particularly credulous <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">or lazy applicants!]<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/tinycheck.gif\" alt=\"tiny check\" \/>&nbsp;<FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\">&nbsp;<\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.abanet.org\/legaled\/standards\/standards.html\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"black\">Standards for ABA-approved law schools<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"> already exist&nbsp;. . . <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT size=\"2\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<FONT size=\"2\">&#8211; click to&nbsp;read the <A href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/stories\/storyReader$3679\">entire post<\/A>&nbsp;which opines:<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;Given the existence and accessibility of this <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">information, the importance of the decisions, <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\">and the kinds of skills and attitudes a <EM>good <\/EM><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\"><EM>lawyer needs<\/EM>, I cannot agree with Andy Perlman <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">that we should feel a lot of sympathy for &#8220;naive&#8221;
