Sufflolk Law School Professor <\/FONT>Andrew Perlman<\/STRONG><\/FONT><\/A> sent me off on quite  <\/FONT><\/DIV>

a tangent last week, with his <\/FONT>guest posting at Legal Ethics Forum<\/EM><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT> <\/FONT><\/DIV>

on “Misleading Law School Promotional Materials<\/A>” (April 13, 2005)  <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
So, I thought I better at least get a posting out of it.  <\/FONT><\/DIV>

<\/FONT> <\/DIV>
\n
It seems Andy is worried that shady law school promotional tactics are   \"\"<\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
misleading and unfairly enticing the nation’s law school applicants. To avoid <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
hypocrisy and unpleasantly surprised students or graduates, Andy wants to apply <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
the same “strict” advertising criteria to schools that are applied to lawyers (although <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
he thinks the restrictions should be lifted from lawyers).  I wasn’t sure that the <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
crisis was as big as Andy suggested, or that we should worry too much about <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
law school applicants (since they can and should protect themselves); check out <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
our conversation<\/FONT><\/STRONG><\/A> at LEF.<\/EM><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV>

After doing a bit of research and reflection, I came to the following conclusions:  <\/FONT><\/DIV>

\"\" Naturally, it’s absolutely improper for law schools to be using deceptive <\/FONT><\/DIV>

tactics in the admissions process  [unless<\/EM> used to weed out particularly credulous <\/FONT><\/DIV>

or lazy applicants!]<\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
<\/FONT> <\/DIV>
\n
\"tiny  <\/FONT>Standards for ABA-approved law schools<\/FONT><\/A> already exist . . . <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV>
