No study required! 100% Verifiable!&#8221;&nbsp; <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">It also warns that this legal loop-hole may be closed soon, due to all the&nbsp;public attention <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">it has lately received.&nbsp; I&#8217;m <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.overlawyered.com\/archives\/002148.html\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">with Walter Olson<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;(see<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">his post and links) on this one: Being human surely includes having the<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">emotional urge for vengeance against vile crimes, but it also means<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">having the wisdom and aspiration to overcome that urge in the name<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">of a better humanity and a better world.<\/FONT><\/DIV><\/SPAN><\/DIV><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\"><FONT><SPAN><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\"><EM><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/yyS.gif\" alt=\"yyS\" \/>&nbsp; So-Called Haiku:<\/EM>&nbsp; If you want to see excellent proof that merely writing words <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">in three lines of 5 &#8211; 7 &#8211; 5 sylllables is <EM>not haiku<\/EM>, click on <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.prochoiceamerica.org\/sexedforgrownups\/hot_haikus.htm\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><EM>Em &amp; Lo<\/EM>&#8216;s winning &#8220;haikus&#8221;<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"> <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">in their <EM>Sex Ed for Grownups<\/EM> space at ProChoice American.org.&nbsp;&nbsp; The contest <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">judges might want to check some of our <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/stories\/storyReader$367\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">resources<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"> to learn more about haiku, before <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">further sullying&nbsp;the name of the poetic genre.&nbsp; Welch, at the&nbsp;bottom of the page.&nbsp; <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<UL><br \/>\n<LI><br \/>\n<DIV style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">Almost by definition, haiku does not lend itself to <EM>declaring<\/EM> a political <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">philosophy.&nbsp; Perhaps a form of <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2004\/07\/23#a1846\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">senryu<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"> might embrace the writer&#8217;s <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">prochoice sentiments, but 17-syllable bumper stickers and sound bites <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\">are not haiku or senryu.&nbsp; I&#8217;m sure <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.professorbainbridge.com\/\"><FONT color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">Prof. Bainbridge<\/FONT><\/A><FONT size=\"2\"> would be glad to<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">note that the last thing pro-choicers actually want to do is speak in<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">graphic &#8220;sense&nbsp;images&#8221; about their subject. &nbsp;(restrained thanks to <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><A href=\"http:\/\/declarationsandexclusions.typepad.com\/foolblog\/\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"black\" size=\"2\">George M. Wallace<\/FONT><\/A><FONT size=\"2\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"black\"> <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><FONT color=\"black\">for<\/FONT> the e-mail pointer.) <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><\/DIV><\/LI><\/UL><br \/>\n<UL><br \/>\n<LI><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Most English-language <A href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/stories\/storyReader$369\"><FONT color=\"black\">haiku poets believe<\/FONT><\/A> that the old<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">17-syllable rule resulted from a misunderstanding of the<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Japanese language, and creates haiku that are very often<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">padded,&nbsp;unnatural&nbsp;and stilted.&nbsp;&nbsp; The only possible reason to<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">insist on the 5 &#8211; 7 &#8211; 5-syllable rule in haiku contests like<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">that held by Em &amp; Lo is that, without such a structural<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">artifice, there would be absolutely no way to <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">distinguish <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">the so-call haiku from aphorisms, doggerel, <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">bumper-stickers <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">and t-shirt philosophy.<\/FONT><\/DIV><\/DIV><\/LI><\/UL><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\"><EM><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/tinycheck.gif\" alt=\"tiny check\" \/>&nbsp; <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/pigblackflip.jpg\" alt=\"pig black flip\" \/><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">rightly mocked the coming ban on wild mushrooms at California farmers&#8217;<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">markets and grocers.&nbsp;&nbsp; (2)&nbsp; Lawyer Thomas Daly, former partner in<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">the &#8220;<EM>Law Centers for Consumer <\/EM><\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"><EM>Protection<\/EM>,&#8221; testified yesterday <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">in the federal fraud trial against his old boss, <A href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2005\/03\/08#a3408\">Andrew Capoccia<\/A>, <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">(<EM>Bennington <\/EM><\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"><EM>Banner<\/EM> <A href=\"http:\/\/www.benningtonbanner.com\/Stories\/0,1413,104~8676~2769474,00.html\">article<\/A>, March 18, 2005).&nbsp; Daly testified that<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">&#8220;The law firm could not win a single lawsuit anywhere at any time.&#8221;<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">They moved to Vermont, when the law and ethics complaints made<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">New York too hot.&nbsp;.On Tuesday, another <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">former employee testified <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" align=\"left\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">that she constantly used client escrow <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">accounts to run the law firm.&nbsp;
