Imagine my surprise that I had missed the news <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT size=\"2\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" color=\"black\">ten days ago, as reported at <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.yusufislam.org.uk\/pressreleasefeb05.shtml\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" color=\"black\">Mr. Islam&#8217;s website<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" color=\"black\">:<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT size=\"2\">The UK&#8217;s Sunday Times and Sun newspapers have agreed to pay <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT size=\"2\">Yusuf Islam substantial damages in respect of articles published on <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT size=\"2\">17th and 19th October 2004.&nbsp; <\/FONT><FONT size=\"2\">Both reports falsely alleged that Yusuf <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT size=\"2\">Islam was or had been involved in supporting terrorism and suggested <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT size=\"2\">that, as a result, the US authorities had been right to refuse Mr Islam <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT size=\"2\">entry into the United States in September 2004.<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><\/BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">&#8220;Six months after the fiasco of my deportation from the USA, my formal requests for&nbsp; #1 was an <\/FONT><A href=\"www.elawyerblog.org\/archives\/000231.html\"><FONT color=\"black\">elawyer post<\/FONT><\/A><FONT color=\"black\"> on the topic.&nbsp;&nbsp; I found a nice quote from<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><SPAN><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\"><FONT color=\"black\">Milton Friedman on the ABA and AMA in&nbsp;a <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.mises.org\/fullstory.aspx?control=1252#_ednref4\"><FONT color=\"black\">Mises article<\/FONT><\/A><FONT color=\"black\">:<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/DIV><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><SPAN><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">&#8220;The <I>justification<\/I>&nbsp;offered is always the same: to protect the <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><SPAN><\/SPAN><SPAN><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">consumer. The lobbyists are invariably representatives <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><SPAN><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">of the occupation in question rather than of the customers. True enough, <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><SPAN><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">plumbers presumably know better than anyone else what their customers <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><SPAN><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">need to be protected against.
