It arrived late, extending <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">my holiday even further.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;<\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/darkwing.uoregon.edu\/~kohl\/basho\/life.html\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">Basho<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"> is considered to be <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">one of the four greatest masters of Japanese haiku.&nbsp; The book is meant for folks <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">(like me and maybe <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">you) with virtually no knowledge of Japanese literature.&nbsp; It has a transliteration of each <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">verse, along <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">with many explanations, and often more than one translator&#8217;s version of a particular haiku.<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/ClassicBashoN.gif\" alt=\"ClassicBashoN\" \/> The gift made me want to share the joy of <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.big.or.jp\/~loupe\/links\/ehisto\/ebasho.shtml\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"#ff0000\" size=\"2\">Basho<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\"> with you.&nbsp; Here are a trio of haiku from <EM>Classic Haiku<\/EM><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">translated by <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/search-handle-url\/index=books&amp;field-author=Asataro%20Miyamori\/104-1569557-1267912\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">Asataro Miyamori<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">:<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">What a bright moon!&nbsp;&nbsp; I strolled<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;&nbsp; Around the pond all night.<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><EM>Alas! the firefly seen by daylight<\/EM><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><EM>Is nothing but a red-necked insect.<\/EM><\/FONT><\/DIV><\/BLOCKQUOTE><\/BLOCKQUOTE><\/BLOCKQUOTE><\/BLOCKQUOTE><\/BLOCKQUOTE><\/BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Well, let&#8217;s go snow-viewing<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
