A thoughtful friend gave me a copy of <\/FONT>Classic Haiku: An Anthology of Poems by Basho and His Followers<\/EM><\/FONT><\/STRONG><\/A>
by Basho Matsuo, translated and annotated by Asataro Miyamori (2002), for Christmas.  It arrived late, extending <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
my holiday even further.  <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
<\/FONT> <\/DIV>
\n
 <\/FONT>Basho<\/FONT><\/A> is considered to be <\/FONT>one of the four greatest masters of Japanese haiku.  The book is meant for folks <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
(like me and maybe <\/FONT>you) with virtually no knowledge of Japanese literature.  It has a transliteration of each <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
verse, along <\/FONT>with many explanations, and often more than one translator’s version of a particular haiku.<\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
<\/FONT> <\/DIV>
\n
