by Yu Chang &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poetrylives.com\/SimplyHaiku\/SHv6n1\/haiga-modern\/Chang\/index.html\"><em>Simply Haiku<\/em><\/a> (Haiga, Spring 2008, Vol. 6:1)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/files\/2008\/08\/yu_changpaddle_2_2_2-267x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"79\" height=\"89\" \/> <strong><em>I<\/em><\/strong>f you think college professors all have easy sinecures after a couple decades on the job, you haven&#8217;t seen Yu Chang [a man of a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2008\/08\/30\/were-celebrating-yu-changs-70th-birthday\/\">certain age<\/a>] in action at Union College here in Schenectady, New York.\u00a0 Despite the school&#8217;s name, professors are not unionized at Union College.\u00a0 That might be why Yu&#8217;s schedule is so heavy again this year, and why he has so many other (administrative) projects on his desk each trimester.\u00a0 Of course, it could also be that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.union.edu\/Academics\/Departments\/deptView.php?code=EE&amp;year=2007\">electrical and computer engineering<\/a> professor does so many things well and so many people count on him.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Yu&#8217;s friends are looking forward to playing, eating, or writing poetry with him once the current school session ends at Union on November 17.\u00a0 Before then, there will be exams to prepare and grade, and all sorts of other paperwork, but little chance for Yu to write haiku.\u00a0 So, we&#8217;re lucky the newest edition of<em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.upstatedimsum.com\/\"><em>Upstate Dim Sum<\/em><\/a><\/em> (2008\/II) came out at the end of October.\u00a0 You can find a handful of Yu&#8217;s poems from that issue of UDS in <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2008\/11\/03\/stop-misting-my-broccoli\/\">our posting<\/a> on November 3rd.\u00a0 Here are another half dozen that should get us through the weekend, while Yu attends to his Day Job:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Leap Day &#8212;<br \/>\nan old friend<br \/>\ntakes off her glasses<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;padding-left: 120px\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">memorial concert<br \/>\na landscape<br \/>\nof light and shadow<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;padding-left: 90px\">first warm day<br \/>\na wedge of sun<br \/>\non my open book<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">glimmer of light<br \/>\nthe duckweed<br \/>\nreassembles<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;padding-left: 150px\">park bench<br \/>\nthe gap<br \/>\nin a stranger&#8217;s teeth<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">long-legged wine glasses<br \/>\nI become<br \/>\na beer drinker<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/files\/2008\/11\/bocci.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-10259\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/files\/2008\/11\/bocci.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"50\" height=\"46\" \/><\/a> \u2026 by <a href=\"..\/2005\/05\/26\/yu-chang-archive\/\">Yu Chang<\/a> &#8211;
