<a href=\"http:\/\/www.atla.org\/ConsumerMediaResources\/Tier3\/press_room\/2004RepublicanConvention.aspx\">What Would Lincoln Say?<\/a><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\">Overlawyered.com&#8217;s<strong> <\/strong><\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.overlawyered.com\/archives\/001495.html\"><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\">Walter Olson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\">, Evan Schaeffer at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.legalunderground.com\/2004\/09\/_professor_bain.html#comments\"><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\">Legal Underground<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\">, and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pointoflaw.com\/archives\/000483.php\"><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\">Jim Copland<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\"> of Point of Law have all <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\">talked about the convention and tort reform, as did Slate&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/newsItems\/edit\/www.slate.com\/id\/2106023\/\"><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\">William Saletan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\"> (taking on Dr. Frist).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\">.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\"> <\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">As I mentioned at Evan&#8217;s place, I believe the blanket &#8220;trial lawyer&#8221; slurs at the RNC were just silly.\u00a0 However, if the ATLA <\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">folk wonder what Lincoln <em>really<\/em> would think about today&#8217;s &#8220;trial lawyers,&#8221; <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2004\/02\/12#a772\"><span style=\"color: #42aac8;font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\"><strong> <\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\">has been very warmly received, suggesting a craving for positive lawyer role models.\u00a0 Today, a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/discuss\/msgReader$829?mode=day\"><strong><span style=\"color: black;font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\">savvy visitor<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\"> was kind enough to share the result he received when converting into today&#8217;s dollars the highest fee mentioned in the materials\u00a0quoted in our posting\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0the $500 fee in the 1838 murder case of <em>People v.
