{"id":145,"date":"2012-06-12T20:03:02","date_gmt":"2012-06-12T20:03:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ernstmayrlibrary\/?p=145"},"modified":"2012-06-14T21:11:48","modified_gmt":"2012-06-14T21:11:48","slug":"global-bhl-and-bhl-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/ernstmayrlibrary\/2012\/06\/12\/global-bhl-and-bhl-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"BHL Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently \u00a0I travelled to Berlin, Germany to attend the final meeting of BHL Europe, which reached the end of its initial funding stream on April 30, 2012, and the Third Global BHL meeting (another post to come). \u00a0The BHL Europe project has come a long way and the international audience received a glimpse of the hard work that went into producing a Biodiversity Heritage Library for Europe. \u00a0Why is this important? \u00a0Check out the Biodiversity Heritage Library for Europe video.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"450\" height=\"254\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bJUMH9z91UQ?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Scientists have told us how important the Biodiversity Heritage Library is to their work&#8211;making information gathering so much easier and reducing the time it takes for them to complete their work.<\/p>\n<p>The BHL Europe portal that is under development has some very impressive options. \u00a0I particularly like the book viewer, which can be seen\u00a0<a title=\"BHL Europe book viewer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WFZJlb5lgYw&amp;feature=plcp\">here<\/a>. \u00a0The BHL Europe portal also adds some features that would be nice to add to the current BHL portal like searching (and finding!) monographs, serials AND articles: <a title=\"BHL Europe portal\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wSOsxJziGL4&amp;feature=relmfu\">view portal\u00a0<\/a>. \u00a0The taxonomic names feature, so important to BHL users, is also available in the BHL Europe portal. \u00a0The most impressive and exciting addition to BHL Europe is the Exhibition page. \u00a0Currently, there are exhibits about <a title=\"BHLE Spices\" href=\"http:\/\/spices.biodiversityexhibition.com\/\">spices<\/a>\u00a0and <a title=\"BHLE expeditions\" href=\"http:\/\/expeditions.biodiversityexhibition.com\/\">expeditions<\/a>. \u00a0Future exhibitions include poisonous creatures and the development of scientific illustration.
