{"id":1468,"date":"2014-01-16T15:48:55","date_gmt":"2014-01-16T20:48:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/environmentallawprogram\/?p=1468"},"modified":"2014-01-16T15:48:55","modified_gmt":"2014-01-16T20:48:55","slug":"clinic-report-identifies-environmental-performance-indicators-for-companies-proposing-to-drill-in-the-u-s-arctic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/environmentallawprogram\/clinic-report-identifies-environmental-performance-indicators-for-companies-proposing-to-drill-in-the-u-s-arctic\/","title":{"rendered":"Clinic Report Identifies Environmental Performance Indicators for Companies Proposing to Drill in the U.S. Arctic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In December 2013, the Emmett Environmental Law &amp; Policy Clinic released a new report, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/environmentallawprogram\/files\/2014\/01\/Indicators-paper-FINAL_1-6-14.pdf\">Suggested Indicators of Environmentally Responsible Performance of Offshore Oil and Gas Companies Proposing to Drill in the U.S. Arctic<\/a>.\u00a0 As the offshore oil and gas drilling industry expands into U.S. waters off the coast of Alaska, it is criti\u00adcal that policymakers develop environment-specific indicators that are tai\u00adlored for effective oversight of operator performance in this environmentally significant and challeng\u00ading setting.\u00a0 In developing this set of suggested indicators, the Clinic focused on both the risk of catastrophic accidents and environmental impacts that occur during the course of normal drilling operations. \u00a0The indicators take into account a variety of offshore oil and gas operations in the Arctic, including exploration, drilling, production, and product transportation.<\/p>\n<p>This report is part of the Clinic\u2019s ongoing Offshore Drilling project and was authored by Clinic Director Wendy B.
