{"id":1065,"date":"2013-08-21T12:57:44","date_gmt":"2013-08-21T16:57:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/environmentallawprogram\/?p=1065"},"modified":"2013-08-23T10:20:48","modified_gmt":"2013-08-23T14:20:48","slug":"beaglehls-fellowship-at-nrdc-for-2014-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/environmentallawprogram\/beaglehls-fellowship-at-nrdc-for-2014-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Beagle\/HLS Fellowship at NRDC for 2014-2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Eligibility<br \/>\n<\/span>The Beagle\/HLS Fellowship will be awarded to graduating Harvard Law School students, judicial clerks or recent alumni (<strong>up to three years out of law school<\/strong>). \u00a0Preference will be given to law clerks and third-year students.\u00a0 Applicants must be available to start work the fall following their application.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Selection Criteria<br \/>\n<\/span>The Fellows are selected by NRDC and a HLS Committee appointed by Dean Minow.\u00a0 NRDC and the Committee seek Fellows who have demonstrated an interest in, and commitment to, nonprofit law, especially environmental law, and who demonstrate promise for an outstanding career in nonprofit environmental law.\u00a0 This interest and commitment may be demonstrated through their prior public service experience, personal essays, recommendations, extracurricular activities, law school course work, academic achievements, and current work plans.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Placement<br \/>\n<\/span>Beagle Fellows for 2014-2016 will be placed in either the Washington, DC or New San Francisco, CA NRDC office.\u00a0 NRDC will try to honor the Fellow\u2019s preferences as to which of the two offices s\/he is placed in.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Fellowship Awards<br \/>\n<\/span>The Fellowship award will be the starting salary for a new attorney or fellow at NRDC, according to the NRDC scale.\u00a0 For the year, 2012-2013, the salary was approximately $55K.\u00a0 NRDC will provide medical benefits for each Fellow equivalent to those provided to other NRDC employees, and will cover overhead expenses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Materials and<\/strong> <strong>Procedures:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>All applications must include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A cover letter, which should include a statement about which NRDC office the applicant would prefer to work in and which office(s) the applicant would consider working in.<\/li>\n<li>Resume<\/li>\n<li>Law school transcript<\/li>\n<li>Writing sample<\/li>\n<li>Two letters of recommendation, preferably including one from an HLS faculty member, and the name of a third reference<\/li>\n<li>A personal essay<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications should be received by the Environmental Law Program, addressed to Kathy Curley, <strong>no later than September 27, 2013<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Select applicants will be invited to interview with NRDC and must participate in the interview to be further considered for the Fellowship.<\/p>\n<p>Questions may be directed to Kathy Curley, Environmental Law Program, Hauser 406, at (617) 495-3097 or <a href=\"mailto:curley@law.harvard.edu\">curley@law.harvard.edu<\/a>.\u00a0 Applications and correspondence should be sent to:<\/p>\n<p>Beagle\/HLS Fellowship at NRDC<br \/>\nEnvironmental Law Program<br \/>\nHarvard Law School<br \/>\n1575 Massachusetts Avenue<br \/>\nHauser 406<br \/>\nCambridge, MA\u00a0 02138<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eligibility The Beagle\/HLS Fellowship will be awarded to graduating Harvard Law School students, judicial clerks or recent alumni (up to three years out of law school). \u00a0Preference will be given to law clerks and third-year students.\u00a0 Applicants must be available &hellip;
