Participants will read an excerpt from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gallup.com\/press\/176588\/strengths-based-leadership.aspx\"><em>Strengths Based Leadership<\/em><\/a> and complete a related online assessment.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"calendar-item\">October 23, 2014: Emotional Intelligence and Your Brain at Work<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"facilitator\">Kathy Baron, Center for Workplace Development<\/span><br \/>\nKathy Baron will lead a workshop based on the Emotional Intelligence Assessment and speak about the basics of Neuro-Leadership. She will also lead us in a discussion of the Shackleton Expedition Case Study.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"calendar-item\">November 12, 2014: Developing Your Career Story<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"facilitator\">Ben Gaucherin, Chief Technology Officer, Harvard University IT<\/span><br \/>\nIn today&#8217;s competitive job market, to stand out from the crowd, you need a well-crafted story that highlights what makes you the best leaders for the job. In this workshop, you will work with your colleagues to understand the philosophy behind the concept and develop your individual career story.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"calendar-item\">December 12, 2014: Situational Leadership<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"facilitator\">Jessica Soban, Assistant Dean and Chief Admissions Officer, Harvard Law School<\/span><br \/>\nVery often leadership development programs focus on the individual and not the relationship between the individual and those s\/he leads. It is important for leaders to understand that within any given group, the needs of those they are leading will be very different. This means the approach to leading each individual will vary. Good leaders must come to understand that, \u201cone size fits all\u201d does not apply to leadership. In the session, Jessica Soban will lead a conversation on the topic of situational leadership. As a former manager in the consulting firm Bain and Company, Jessica was able to observe the importance of situational leadership, which ultimately led to her becoming a manager within the company.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"calendar-item\">January 29, 2015: Mentor Workshop<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"facilitator\">David Harris, Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice<\/span><br \/>\nThis short mentoring info\/intro session will prepare the EL cohort for their first meeting with their mentors.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"calendar-item\">February 12, 2015: Mentor Program Gathering<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"facilitator\">David Harris, Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice<\/span><br \/>\nAt this meeting each of the mentors will be given an opportunity to share a little about their own careers as well as their personal experiences with mentoring throughout their personal or professional lives. EL members will then be given a chance to ask questions before we break out into group of the assigned mentors and their mentees.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"calendar-item\">February 26, 2015: Coaching<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"facilitator\">Kathy Baron, Center for Workplace Development<\/span><br \/>\nCoaching is a process that realizes the potential of individuals and creates lasting change. The purpose of this session is to define your developmental, career, and professional goals and practice coaching each other using coaching tools. During this session, you will create and discuss your SMART goals that play to your strengths. We will focus on the transformation that comes from curiosity and asking powerful questions as you make progress to goals. You will also learn important coaching skills that you can use on yourself or with others. We will also discuss motivation, managing change and managing up.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"calendar-item\">April 7, 2015: Introduction to Crimson Toastmasters<\/span><br \/>\nCrimson Toastmasters is a group of Harvard staff and faculty who meet biweekly to practice and improve public speaking skills. During this session, which is open to all HLS staff, we will observe a meeting and get an idea of how Toastmasters works.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"calendar-item\">April 29, 2015: Difficult Conversations<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"facilitator\">Rachel Viscomi, HLS Lecturer on Law<\/span><br \/>\nWe all encounter difficult conversations, whether it be in our personal or professional lives. This session will share some strategies for raising challenging topics effectively.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"calendar-item\">May 6, 2015: Conversation with Human Resources<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"facilitator\">Lisa Maxwell, Assistant Director of Employment at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"facilitator\">Avery Walker, Harvard Law School Human Resources<\/span><br \/>\nLisa and Avery will lead the discussion about how to strategically manage our careers at Harvard University. Specifically, they will talk about recruitment, internal hiring, and informational interviewing.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"calendar-item\">May 19, 2015: Closing Ceremony and Reception<\/span><br \/>\nSpeakers include Maria Leister (Emerging Leaders Founder and Program Director), Martha Minnow (Dean of Harvard Law School), Marie Bowen (associate dean and chief human resource officer at Harvard Law School), and Jon Hanson (Alfred Smart Professor of Law, Faculty Director of The Systemic Justice Project, and Director of The Project on Law and Mind Sciences, Harvard Law School).<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"calendar-item\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/emergingleaders\/2015\/05\/27\/cradles-to-crayons-visit\/\">May 26, 2015: Cradles to Crayons<\/a><\/span><br \/>\nWe, along with other volunteers, will be inspecting, sorting and\/or packaging donations into customized \u201cKidPacks\u201d for disadvantaged young children in Massachusetts.  More information can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cradlestocrayons.org\/boston\/volunteer\">Cradles to Crayons<\/a>.  Others we know who have volunteered have had only good things to say about their experience.
