The Palace on the Hill. The Haunted Castle. The Witches&#8217; Castle. The Kirkbride.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>This place is so spooky, it was <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Session_9\">the set of a psychological thriller<\/a>, where an asbestos abatement crew is terrorized at the abandoned hospital.<\/p>\n<p>This does not appear to be an isolated case.&nbsp; According to <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">the Times <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/01\/15\/realestate\/15nati.html?ex=1294981200&amp;en=2cdd9baf17029d03&amp;ei=5090&amp;partner=rssuserland&amp;emc=rss\">developers are crazy about old asylums<\/a>.&nbsp;<br \/>\nPerhaps, I should reserve making my judgments on such projects.&nbsp;<br \/>\nAs the article points out, one such development in the Bay Area, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rivermark.net\/community.html\">Rivermark Village<\/a>, is an experiment in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/newurbanism\/keypoints.html\">new urbanism<\/a>:<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">Julie Liedtke, who bought a three-bedroom home in the Rivermark<br \/>\ndevelopment for $653,000 in 2002, was not bothered that the home was<br \/>\nbuilt on the grounds of a former mental hospital.
