When I was a 1L, my Criminal Law prof told my class that it was all right if we decided to watch Law and Order instead of doing our reading for his class (Professor Randall Kennedy was also a big Miami Vice fan). Slate just did an interesting analysis about how Law and Order can also be used as an indicator for our economic times (for instance, Sam Waterson equates to cautious optimism).
