{"id":524,"date":"2014-10-22T11:39:32","date_gmt":"2014-10-22T15:39:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/dpsi\/?p=524"},"modified":"2014-10-24T10:02:00","modified_gmt":"2014-10-24T14:02:00","slug":"accessed-team-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/dpsi\/2014\/10\/22\/accessed-team-update\/","title":{"rendered":"AccessEd Team Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em><strong>What We Worked On<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The AccessEd team met last week to: \u00a0(a) take stock\u00a0where things stand in terms of background research and planned outputs for the project; and (b) discuss ways to best take advantage\u00a0this week&#8217;s mid-semester review session to inform our work over the rest of the term.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em><strong>What Went Well<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The team continues to make progress on evaluating the landscape for online education and access and getting its collective arms around the scope of issues that learners with hearing and visual impairments face as course materials move online. \u00a0 Conversations thus far with experts in this space have helped the team to understand\u00a0key technical, policy, and resource concerns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em><strong>What Was Challenging<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Identifying discrete tasks to be tackled within the scope and timeline of DPSI has been difficult. \u00a0Some of the technological challenges in this space are quite significant &#8212; e.g., challenges around development of fast and accurate captioning systems for audiovisual materials. \u00a0The team is perhaps\u00a0more likely to have an impact as a resource (or aggregator of third-party resources) or perhaps\u00a0codifier\u00a0of best practices\u00a0than as a\u00a0technical engineering or development initiative.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em><strong>What&#8217;s Up<\/strong><strong> Next<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The team\u00a0looks forward to getting some feedback from the crowd at this week&#8217;s mid-semester review as we continue to develop our agenda for the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What We Worked On The AccessEd team met last week to: \u00a0(a) take stock\u00a0where things stand in terms of background research and planned outputs for the project; and (b) discuss ways to best take advantage\u00a0this week&#8217;s mid-semester review session to inform our work over the rest of the term.
