They defined &quot;leanness&quot; as the lowest percentage<br \/>\n        of obese citizens, which says something about the shape we are in.<\/p>\n<p>Among the factors which the Center mentioned as responsible for the &quot;leanness&quot;<br \/>\n        quotient in Colorado and Mass are increased opportunities for outdoor<br \/>\n        activity, and higher than average education and income<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcsandiego.com\/food\/2321458\/detail.html\"><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Like the rest of the country, though, Colorado&#8217;s waistline is expanding.<br \/>\n        In 1990, only 6.9 percent of the state&#8217;s population was obese, less than<br \/>\n        half of the state&#8217;s current level of 14.9 percent. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/dailyglobe2\/190\/nation\/Culture_of_fitness_helps_make_Colorado_nation_s_leanest_state%2B.shtml\">from<br \/>\n        the Boston Globe<\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to annual survey done by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Colorado and Massachusetts are the &quot;leanness&quot; states in the union.
