BOSTON (Reuters) – An 18-year-old man opened fire in a Massachusetts’
\n gay bar and attacked patrons with a hatchet, wounding three people, police
\n said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The attack at Puzzles Lounge in New Bedford, a city about 58 miles south
\n of Boston, took place around midnight on Wednesday and was being treated
\n as an apparent hate crime.<\/p>\n

Police said the man entered the bar, ordered a drink and asked the bartender
\n if he was in a gay bar. When told that it was, he reached into his coat
\n and pulled out a hatchet and attacked the man next to him.<\/p>\n

As patrons attempted to restrain him, he drew a gun and fired several shots,
\n wounding two people, police said.Two of the wounded were airlifted to a
\n Boston hospital.<\/p>\n

The gunman fled. Police later identified him as Jacob Robida, an 18-year-old
\n described as extremely violent. <\/p>\n
