After a lifetime surrounded by some of
\n his generation’s biggest frauds, psuedos, pretenders and scam artists,
\n the Dowbrigade has a finely attuned Bullshit Detector. Some would say
\n this is an example of the "It takes one to know one" school of recognition.<\/p>\n
Be that as it may, our deterctor has been ringing quite
\n a bit every time we hear another story about the latest scourge of the
\n planet’s well-being, the Avian Flu. Not that we don’t believe it
\n exists, just that there seems to be a lot more to the story than the
\n authorities are letting on. Among our burning questions:<\/p>\n
If the H5N1 virus has existed for three or four years,
\n as scientists claim, and has not yet mutated to a form making it easily
\n catchable, why are they so much more worried about this one than the dozens
\n of other strains which have been circulating lately?<\/p>\n
If there is no danger of rapid contagion, why has the
\n CDC opened an isolation center at Logan Airport?<\/p>\n
Why is this strain different than all the other strains
\n which could potentially mutate into a deadly form at any moment?<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, we suspect there is much more of this
\n story to come…..<\/p>\n
\nThe H5N1 strain of bird flu seen in human cases in China
\n has mutated as compared with strains found in human cases in Vietnam.<\/p>\nChinese labs have found that the genetic order of the H5N1 virus seen
\n in humans infected in China is different from that found in humans in
\n Vietnam, Xinhua news agency reported Monday.<\/p>\nIn China’s human cases, the virus has mutated "to a certain degree," health
\n ministry spokesman Mao Qun’an was quoted as saying.<\/p>\nBut the mutation cannot cause human-to-human transmission of the avian
\n flu," he noted.<\/p>\nChina this month confirmed its first three human cases of bird flu, two
\n of which were fatal. The disease has killed more than 60 people in Asia
\n since 2003.<\/p>\nHealth officials fear that the virus could mutate to the extent where
\n it is easily transmitted from human-to-human, an event that could lead
