Too much breast feeding,<br \/>\n          or not enough, but regular readers of the Dowbrigade may have noted<br \/>\n          a certain fixation with the human breast.<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><em>In particular, we are deeply distressed by the discrepency<br \/>\n          in public acceptance of the bared female vs. male breasts. Why does<br \/>\n          our culture tolerate, even celebrate the bared masculine chest, yet<br \/>\n          turn it&#8217;s head in shame and horror at the much more graceful and fuctional<br \/>\n          female version.<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><em>We have written that it <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/dowbrigade\/2004\/01\/11#a2249\">smacks<br \/>\n              of sexism<\/a>. We have<br \/>\n          traced the taboo to the tenets of the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/dowbrigade\/2004\/02\/06#a2552\">Elders<br \/>\n          of Zion<\/a>.&nbsp;We have<br \/>\n          speculated that it is evidence of the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/dowbrigade\/2004\/03\/08\">not-so-hidden<br \/>\n          agenda<\/a> of the Gay<br \/>\n          Liberation Movement. We enthusiastically envisioned bare breast beaches,<br \/>\n          topless Fridays and bare-breasted equality in women&#8217;s sports like beach<br \/>\n          volleyball,<br \/>\n          platform diving and martial arts.<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><em>But all the time we imagined we were<br \/>\n          campaigning for the liberation of<br \/>\n          women&#8217;s<br \/>\n          breasts.<br \/>\n          Recent news&nbsp; reports,<br \/>\n          however, have convinced us that in these fundamentalist times&nbsp;we<br \/>\n          will be lucky to resist the increasing stigma and prudishness attached<br \/>\n          to<br \/>\n          the display of the MALE chest. The great cover-up has started&#8230;..<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">London &#8211; Men may be barred from baring their chests<br \/>\n          &#8211; and stomachs &#8211; in public under new local laws being considered by<br \/>\n          town<br \/>\n          halls.<\/p>\n<p>          They would stop men stripping off their shirts in crowded town centres<br \/>\n          and give powers to police to remove any who defy the cover-up laws.<\/p>\n<p>          The proposal has been inspired by the least attractive side effect<br \/>\n          of the heatwave &#8211; the tendency of a number of often middle-aged men<br \/>\n        to go about in nothing more than shorts and trainers.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/pages\/live\/articles\/news\/news.html?in_article_id=397618&amp;in_page_id=1770\">Daily Mail<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/pages\/galleries\/index.html?in_gallery_id=8276&amp;in_image_id=272659&amp;in_page_id=1055\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/dowbrigade\/thonk.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"200\" hspace=\"7\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\"><\/a><em>On<br \/>\n            a related note, the same publication has made a powerful visual argument<br \/>\n            with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/pages\/galleries\/index.html?in_gallery_id=8276&amp;in_image_id=272659&amp;in_page_id=1055\">this<br \/>\n            slide show<\/a> of geriatric male flesh.&nbsp; Perhaps<br \/>\n          we could put an age limit on degree of public nakedness. Maybe we could<br \/>\n          say a person is allowed to bare a percentage of their flesh equal to<br \/>\n          their age &#8211; babies could go completely naked, centinarians must be completely<br \/>\n          covered at all times.&nbsp;Or perhaps we could have yearly body inspections,<br \/>\n          like for automobiles, to check on the current condition of breasts,<br \/>\n          thighs and chins. A tough job, but someone might have to do it.
