Researchers
\n at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology say they have used spinach
\n to harness a plant’s ability to convert sunlight into energy for the
\n first time, creating a device that may one day power laptops, mobile
\n phones and more. <\/p>\n
Why spinach? <\/p>\n
In reality, any number of plants could have been used. But the researchers
\n chose spinach because "it is cheap and is easily available from
\n the grocery store," Zhang said<\/p>\n
Practical applications are still a decade or so away,
\n but the advantages include the technology’s lightweight qualities, portability
\n and environmental
\n friendliness. "There is no waste," Zhang said. <\/p>\n
