Payne, who in the past has worked for<br \/>\n        both Kerry and Dukakis is now a Boston-area media consultant and Globe<br \/>\n        columnist. (see <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/dowbrigade\/2004\/02\/03#a2511\">here<br \/>\n        for a note<\/a> on why some politicians get known by<br \/>\n        their initials<br \/>\n        and others not).<\/i><\/p>\n<p>MSD fired his campaign manager and floundered, JK fired<br \/>\n          his manager and flourished.<br \/>\n          MSD got nomination on momentum and attrition, JK<br \/>\n               ditto. Jesse Jackson too powerful for MSD to ignore; Al Sharpton<br \/>\n               no Jesse. MSD had lousy manual for general election; first page<br \/>\n               of JK manual says, Don&#8217;t use Dukakis manual.<\/p>\n<p>MSD didn&#8217;t fit in at State House, but ruled jungle anyway; JK doesn&#8217;t<br \/>\n        fit in Senate club and never even tried to lead. MSD ill at ease on foreign<br \/>\n        and military policy; JK most comfortable there. MSD ran on Massachusetts<br \/>\n        Miracle; if JK keeps Massachusetts out of campaign, it&#8217;ll be miracle.<br \/>\n        (With convention here, nearly impossible.)<\/p>\n<p>        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/dowbrigade\/kerryrides.jpg\" width=\"152\" height=\"102\" align=\"right\">MSD had staffers write jokes for Bulger breakfasts on St. Patrick&#8217;s Day;<br \/>\n        JK has Hollywood gag writers do his. MSD stubborn, JK impatient. MSD<br \/>\n        mows own grass, JK moves own fire hydrant. MSD married independent woman,<br \/>\n        JK married two of them. MSD rode tank, JK Harley. MSD owns shirts from<br \/>\n        Hawaiian Islands, JK owns Naushon Island. MSD shopped at Filene&#8217;s Basement,<br \/>\n        JK Hermes. MSD took T to work, JK takes private jet.<\/p>\n<p>        MSD carries ACLU card, JK hunting license. MSD against gay adoption,<br \/>\n        JK against gay marriage. MSD read Swedish land-use planning on vacation;<br \/>\n        JK went to Rio for environmental Earth Summit. MSD plays trumpet, JK<br \/>\n        guitar. MSD knows everybody&#8217;s name he ever met, JK knows every celebrity<br \/>\n        he ever met.<\/p>\n<p>        MSD speeches prosaic, JK baroque. MSD could take punch, JK delivers them.<br \/>\n        MSD reluctantly let me ridicule opponent Dick Gephardt as acrobat on<br \/>\n        issues in TV spot; JK not reluctant to let me ridicule opponent Jim Rappaport<br \/>\n        as lightweight wheeler-dealer.<\/p>\n<p>        MSD&#8217;s Boston Harbor, dirty enough to walk on; JK&#8217;s Boston Harbor, clean<br \/>\n        enough to windsurf. MSD furloughed Willie Horton, murdering rapist; JK<br \/>\n        jailed Howie Winter, murdering mobster.
