{"id":2017,"date":"2004-01-30T07:55:28","date_gmt":"2004-01-30T11:55:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/dbnews\/2004\/01\/30\/who-are-the-deaniacs\/"},"modified":"2004-01-30T07:55:28","modified_gmt":"2004-01-30T11:55:28","slug":"who-are-the-deaniacs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/dowbrigade\/2004\/01\/30\/who-are-the-deaniacs\/","title":{"rendered":"Who Are the Deaniacs?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a2467'><\/a><\/p>\n<p>An interesting meeting last night of the Thursday night Bloggers crew<br \/>\nat the Berkman.&nbsp; We noodled around for a while fishing for a<br \/>\ntopic, and ended up back at the roots of the group: support for newbies<br \/>\nand discussions of the impact and future of Blogging on &#8220;Internet and<br \/>\nSociety&#8221;, which after all is the Purview of the Berkman Center.<\/p>\n<p>Near the end <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/jim\/\">Jim Moore<\/a><br \/>\nstopped by with a fascinating report from inside the Dean<br \/>\ncampaign.&nbsp; The questions floating around the political corner of<br \/>\nthe Blogosphere were addressed if not answered: Was the internet<br \/>\nstategy responsible for one of the most spectacular political collapses<br \/>\nin American political history? Will the Interent survive the collapse<br \/>\nas a viable political tool? Will any of the other campaigns pick up the<br \/>\nbanner, or will we have to wait another four years for the next stage<br \/>\nin the evolution? After the intense love affair and subsequent bitter<br \/>\nfalling out between the Deaniacs and the Media, is there any realistic<br \/>\nhope for a rapproachment?<\/p>\n<p>Good questions, all, but for the Dowbrigade the most interesting moment<br \/>\nin the discussion was trying to put a label on the wellspring of angry<br \/>\nsupport which the Dean campaign uncovered and which formed the core of<br \/>\nthe Dean phenomena.&nbsp; Are they liberals? Are they &#8220;progressives&#8221;<br \/>\n(Jim hates that one)?&nbsp; Are they the &#8220;wired electorate&#8221;?&nbsp; It<br \/>\nseems clear that the old labels are inadequate to describe this nascent<br \/>\npolitical demographic, which is fated and slated to play an increasing<br \/>\nrole in each succeeding electoral process, in our humble opinion.
