BOSTON
\n –The Department of Homeland Security’s plan to hold detainees in cells
\n in a new office building along the historic Freedom Trail, in the neighborhood
\n that saw the first major fighting of the American Revolution, has residents
\n here preparing to wage their own battle.<\/p>\n
The federal government has signed a 10-year, $1.2 million per year lease
\n with developers of a new building in downtown Charlestown, an area best
\n known as the site of the Bunker Hill Monument, the home port of the USS
\n Constitution, and starting point for Paul Revere’s historic ride.<\/p>\n
Neighbors say they were promised by developers that the office building
\n would be filled with retail and professional office space – not holding
\n rooms for potentially dangerous federal detainees awaiting deportation.<\/p>\n
