While it only takes about 6 minutes for light to get to Earth from the sun, this electromagnetic radiations seems to take a couple of days, which is how long they&#8217;ve been warning us about it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;This is the real thing,&#8221; said John Kohl, a solar astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge. &#8221;It&#8217;s headed straight for us, like a freight train.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/dailyglobe2\/302\/nation\/Solar_flare_portends_disruption_on_earth+.shtml\">Boston Globe Story (foto from NASA)<\/a><br \/>\n<b>Solar Flare Update: (noon) We just lost power in one of our classroom buildings here at BU and it looks like a whole segment of Commowealth Avenue is out.
