So just
\n two weeks ago, we all get an email from the Boston University Chancellor’s
\n office, announcing that the university has declared November 17th an
\n Official University Holiday, all classes cancelled, all offices closed,
\n in honor of the coronation of the new University President, John Goldin,
\n Mr.
\n "Faster,
\n Better, Cheaper" himself.<\/p>\n
A classic ploy to pack the galleries of an event which other\\ise would
\n be pathetically unattended. <\/p>\n
\n Of course, my student’s saw right through it. Given that the previous
\n Friday is also a program holiday ("Professional Development Day"), they
\n are being given a 4-day weekend, and added to Columbus Day, Yom Kippur
\n and three days for Thanksgiving, they are paying for a lot of days we
\n are taking off.<\/p>\n
I have business students right now, and a lot of them can do the math.
\n They tell me it amounts to a 10% surcharge on an already inflated tuition. <\/p>\n
Now comes the news, three short weeks before the Ceremonial Installation,
\n that the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees is having second
\n thoughts, not about the ceremony or the holiday, but about giving the
\n green light to Mr. Goldin at all! How
\n am I going to explain this one to my students?<\/p>\n
