{"id":70,"date":"2008-02-21T15:33:36","date_gmt":"2008-02-21T19:33:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/digitalnatives\/2008\/02\/21\/digital-natives-in-the-press\/"},"modified":"2008-02-21T15:33:36","modified_gmt":"2008-02-21T19:33:36","slug":"digital-natives-in-the-press","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/digitalnatives\/2008\/02\/21\/digital-natives-in-the-press\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital Natives in the Press"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s New York Times features an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/02\/21\/fashion\/21webgirls.html?_r=2&amp;th=&amp;oref=slogin&amp;emc=th&amp;pagewanted=all&amp;oref=slogin\">article<\/a> about differences in content creation among girls and boys:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/pewresearch.org\/pubs\/670\/teen-content-creators\">Pew<\/a> reports that girls in the US are bigger bloggers and upload more photos, while boys are bigger vidders.\u00a0 Why?<\/p>\n<p>Just follow socializing of gender for generations &#8211; it&#8217;s still the same, just migrated online.\u00a0 As quoted in the NYT:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWith young women it\u2019s much more about expressing yourself to others in the way that wearing certain clothes to school does,\u201d said John Palfrey, the executive director of the Berkman Center. \u201cIt ties into identity expression in the real world.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Harvard Magazine <a href=\"http:\/\/harvardmagazine.com\/2008\/03\/born-digital.html\">reports<\/a> about Urs Gasser and John Palfrey&#8217;s upcoming book, Born Digital.\u00a0 Here, Palfrey highlights the issue of the digital dossier:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Palfrey believes companies should be required to disclose\u2014either in plain English or on an icon resembling a nutritional label\u2014what they do with the information they collect. \u201cWhat is it that you collect and store about me?\u201d he would ask. \u201cIs it only what I put in, or is it my browsing habits? Do you share [data] with any third parties?
