And, &#8220;How can I make good looking Excel or PowerPoint charts?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>MIT&#8217;s Ben Fry (of <a href=\"http:\/\/acg.media.mit.edu\/people\/fry\/zipdecode\/\" title=\"Zip decoder\">Zipdecoder <\/a>fame) has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oreilly.com\/catalog\/9780596514556\/\" title=\"Data Visualization\">new book<\/a> out about data visualization; it should be good, but I haven&#8217;t read it yet.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, there&#8217;s a lot of controversy about the value of dashboards; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.perceptualedge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/telesales-dashboard.jpg\" title=\"Dashboard done right\">here&#8217;s an example of a telesales dashboard<\/a> done right.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a Prado Medialab in Madrid that works on <a href=\"http:\/\/medialab-prado.es\/article\/visualizar_simposio_y_taller\" title=\"Prado visualization symposium and workshop\">visualization issues<\/a>, amongst others.<\/p>\n<p>A neat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wikimindmap.org\/\" title=\"Wiki Mind Map\">mindmapping<\/a> application built on top of Wikipedia.  (This category of tool, using Wikipedia as a knowledge base, is fascinating, I think.)<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/1\/1e\/Non_rhotic-whites-usa.png\" title=\"non-rhotic map of regional American dialects\">interesting map<\/a> of white American regional accents that are &#8216;non-rhotic,&#8217; r-droppers in other terms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Juice Analytics has a useful Chart Chooser that, according to them, answers the questions: &#8220;What type of chart should I use to show my data?
