In response to Stephanie\u2019s comment about her upcoming visit to Harvard, I thought I would post a list of the Top 10 Things To Do When Visiting Harvard.\u00a0 As I began writing, however, my roommate reminded me that admissions letters would be coming out SOON, and that new prospective students would be looking for things to do on their visits (by the way, we\u2019re SOOOOOOOOO excited to meet you guys)!!!!<\/p>\n

As a result, I took it upon myself to compile TWO lists \u2013 one for anyone who just wants to take a look around and one for prospective students!\u00a0 I will include the list of top To Do\u2019s in my next post.<\/p>\n

But for now\u2026<\/p>\n

THE TOP 10 THINGS TO DO AS A TOURIST AT HARVARD<\/p>\n

1.) \u00a0DO NOT under any circumstances touch John Harvard\u2019s foot.<\/p>\n

As you walk into Harvard Yard, take in its classic beauty, and reflect upon the centuries of history it has witnessed, you may find yourself drawn to a rather iconic statue of John Harvard, also known as the \u2018Statue of Three Lies.\u2019\u00a0 Lest you be unprepared I shall verse you in these lies: 1) John Harvard was NOT the founder of Harvard, he was merely a donor,\u00a0 2) Harvard was NOT founded in 1638, it was founded in 1636,\u00a0 3) the man portrayed in the statue is NOT John Harvard\u2026 its some rando.\u00a0 All things considered, I personally feel that a fourth lie needs to be added to the list.\u00a0 This lie would be\u00a0 4) touching John Harvard\u2019s foot is NOT a good idea.\u00a0 I mean, go ahead and rub it for good luck\u2026. Just don\u2019t ask me to shake your hand afterward.<\/p>\n

2.) \u00a0Go on a Crimson Key Tour<\/p>\n

It\u2019s easy to say, \u201cGo to Memorial Hall!\u201d or \u201cGo to Widener Library!\u201d but really, the Crimson Key tour covers it all, and they do a GREAT job!\u00a0 Seriously, do yourself a favor and go on their tours.\u00a0 They leave from the Information Center in the Holyoke Center (next to the Au Bon Pan in Harvard Square) at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 2:00 pm Monday- Saturday.<\/p>\n

3.) \u00a0Stand outside of the Science Center between 12:00 -12:07<\/p>\n

It is said that no Harvard student can go all four years without taking at least one class in the Science Center.\u00a0 No, this isn\u2019t because all students are brainiacs \u2013 it\u2019s because SO many classes are offered in that huge, ugly building (every college campus has one\u2026 even Harvard).\u00a0 As a result, during class transition time \u2013 also known as \u2018Harvard Time\u2019 \u2013 a CRAZY number of students pass through the area right outside (I\u2019ve heard stats saying up to 50% of the undergraduate student body)!\u00a0 If you want a taste of student academic life, go hang out there.<\/p>\n

4.) \u00a0Mr. Bartley\u2019s Burgers<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Have you seen\u00a0The Social Network<\/em> or Good Will Hunting<\/em>?!?!\u00a0 If so, you may have noticed a lovely place featured called Bartley\u2019s.\u00a0 This is because they have THE BEST burgers OF ALL TIME!\u00a0 I\u2019m not joking.\u00a0 This dive has been around for a loooooonnnnggg time, and for good reason.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re watching your cholesterol, if you\u2019re at risk of terrible food-induced ailments, take the gross caloric hit and GO FOR IT!\u00a0 You won\u2019t regret it.<\/p>\n

5.) \u00a0Check out the Greenhouse Cafe<\/p>\n

After you get swept away by the wave of students outside of the Science Center, head on inside and grab a snack (or Starbucks) at the Greenhouse Caf\u00e9!\u00a0 This is a major hang out spot for students in between classes, and it\u2019s just a generally cool place to check out.<\/p>\n

6.) \u00a0Stop by the COOP<\/p>\n

Why visit Harvard if you don\u2019t have something to show for it?\u00a0 The COOP has a plethora of Harvard paraphernalia to offer, PLUS if you\u2019re curious, you can take a trip to the top floor and look at the textbooks students buy for class!<\/p>\n

7.) \u00a0Walk along the Charles River<\/p>\n

If it\u2019s a nice day, take a walk along the Charles River!\u00a0 It is honestly one of the most beautiful strolls ever, and you can see the River Houses, where sophomores, juniors, and seniors live.<\/p>\n

8.) \u00a0Watch the Crew team practice on the river<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

While you\u2019re on the river, if it\u2019s Fall or Spring, you might be fortunate enough to witness the Crew team practicing (or racing) on the river!\u00a0 Crew is a BIG DEAL at Harvard, so it\u2019s always a good thing to see.<\/p>\n

9.) \u00a0Visit Radcliffe Quad<\/p>\n

One of the least appreciated spots on campus, Radcliffe Quad is home to three upperclassmen houses (Currier, Cabot, and Pfoho), and is where the women of Radcliffe College used to live!\u00a0 The Quad is less than a mile up Garden Street and has a unique history.<\/p>\n

10.) \u00a0Walk along Mt. Auburn street late Saturday night<\/p>\n

If you want a taste for what Harvard nightlife is like, I would suggest walking down Mt. Auburn street between 11:00 pm \u2013 2:00 am on Saturday night and seeing all of the final clubs.\u00a0 I\u2019m not suggesting you try to go in, but you\u2019ll get the sense that Harvard students play just as hard as they work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
