{"id":356,"date":"2010-11-23T01:05:10","date_gmt":"2010-11-23T06:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/?p=356"},"modified":"2010-11-23T01:05:10","modified_gmt":"2010-11-23T06:05:10","slug":"its-more-than-just-a-game-its-the-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/2010\/11\/23\/its-more-than-just-a-game-its-the-game\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s more than just a game&#8230; it&#8217;s THE game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201c<em>How<\/em> many people are staying in your room?!?!?!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This was the reaction I received from many Harvard students when they discovered how many Yalies my roommates and I would be hosting for the big Harvard-Yale Game weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The answer was eleven, which meant that counting the five of us who lived in our suite, we had sixteen college freshmen in our room.<\/p>\n<p>Was it a little crowded?\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Was it completely and totally worth it?\u00a0 YES!!!!!<\/p>\n<p>The Harvard-Yale Game is the one weekend out of the whole year when Harvard students pull out all of the stops to show school spirit.<\/p>\n<p>Not that people aren\u2019t proud they go to Harvard.\u00a0 If I do say so myself (and all of the t-shirts made for this past weekend would agree with me), it <em>is<\/em> the best school.\u00a0 But there\u2019s a difference between wearing a Harvard sweatshirt on your way to class, and donning every single piece of obtainable Harvard-wear to go cheer on a the football team until you go hoarse.<\/p>\n<p>And that is exactly what Harvard-Yale is all about.<\/p>\n<p>We wake up at 8:00.\u00a0 Grab breakfast.\u00a0 Hit up the never-ending medley of tailgates by 10:00.\u00a0 Enter the stadium at 12:00.\u00a0 And enjoy the best two and a half hours of football one could ever experience.<\/p>\n<p>The excitement stems not so much from the game itself \u2013 though it is full of unforgettable, heart-stopping plays and our guys really do give it their all \u2013 but from the infectious atmosphere created by the fans.\u00a0 Students are so psyched to be there, continuing the 127-year rivalry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2010\/11\/harvardyalegame1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-359\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2010\/11\/harvardyalegame1-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"Harvard-Yale game\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2010\/11\/harvardyalegame1-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2010\/11\/harvardyalegame1.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>First Yale was up 7, then Harvard came back with a touchdown, but before we knew it, Yale was up again, only to have Harvard run in a touchdown after Yale\u2019s kick-off at the beginning of the second half.\u00a0 The tension was palpable, and when Harvard\u2019s defense stepped up in the last three minutes of the game to ensure our victory, the fans went wild.<\/p>\n<p>We rushed the field, jumping over the cement walls and sprinting towards the team.\u00a0 Hugs were exchanged, people were lifted onto shoulders, and the cheering, whooping, and blowing of (banned) vuvuzelas filled the air.<\/p>\n<p>After so many years of hearing about the famous Harvard-Yale Game (yes, I was that girl who motivated herself by looking up Harvard trivia throughout high school), it was unreal to experience it first hand.\u00a0 It was one of those moments where I think everyone felt both proud and lucky to be at Harvard.\u00a0 Who says Harvard students don\u2019t have school spirit?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cHow many people are staying in your room?!?!?!\u201d This was the reaction I received from many Harvard students when they discovered how many Yalies my roommates and I would be hosting for the big Harvard-Yale Game weekend.
