With an all-time low acceptance rate of 5.9%, you guys are true all-stars.\u00a0 No, but actually, I already feel intimidated by how awesome you all must be.<\/p>\n<p>I remember getting my acceptance email \u2013 it was April Fools Day, and I was <em>convinced<\/em> that Harvard (or life) was going to play some sort of horrible joke on me.\u00a0 In addition to my family, which is already quite large\u2026 I\u2019m the oldest of five, my grandparents were in town, and so the whole house was waiting in anticipation for me to get my decision from Harvard.\u00a0 Finally, I just couldn\u2019t take the pressure, and I walked to the local public library, where (prepare yourself for the nerdiness to come\u2026) I\u2019d always gone as a kid when I needed to get out of the house\/ relieve stress.<\/p>\n<p>It was on the steps of the public library where I opened my acceptance on my phone and literally had a <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NubH5BDOaD8#t=2m05s\">Rocky Balboa-on-top-of-the-stairs<\/a><\/strong><\/em> moment.\u00a0 It was an awesome little celebration with me, myself, and I.<\/p>\n<p>All this to say that you all should really congratulate yourselves.\u00a0 Seriously, give yourselves a hug.\u00a0 Take a moment to feel like the luckiest kid in the world.\u00a0 You are one in a million\u2026. Well, more like one in about 595,000 (about 17% of the world\u2019s population of 7 billion is 18 and under\u2026 2,032 of you got accepted into Harvard\u2026 you can feel free to correct me on the math).\u00a0 You are literally more likely to die from slipping in the bathtub (one in 2,232), win an Academy Award (one in 11,500), or find a four-leaf clover on the first try (one in 10,000).<\/p>\n<p>And speaking of celebrations, I had one of my own last week \u2013 my 20<sup>th<\/sup> birthday!\u00a0 Now, I\u2019d like to preface this by saying that I never make a big deal out of my birthday.\u00a0 Quite frankly, I don\u2019t really get it.\u00a0 It\u2019s not like I\u2019ve been cruising along for an entire year and then CABAM!\u2014all of a sudden, 365 days later I\u2019m a year older, and I\u2019m some how dramatically different than I was the day before.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been getting a little bit older every single day.\u00a0 March 29<sup>th<\/sup> just happens to be another one of those days.\u00a0 Plus, 20-years-old doesn\u2019t mark much of anything other than the repeated comments from my younger siblings about how <em>old<\/em> I am now.<\/p>\n<p>But March 29<sup>th<\/sup> came along and all of a sudden, despite the fact that I had told virtually no one about my birthday, I felt like a celebrity!\u00a0 I awoke to flowers, courtesy of my friend Jackie, outside my door!\u00a0 Next, I received a cupcake from my friend Elan, a chocolate decadence cake from my friend Cici, biscotti from my roommate Amy, sugar cookies from my grandma, and a yellow cake from my mom!\u00a0 I also was stopped by multiple friends on the sidewalk for impromptu birthday hugs and congratulations!\u00a0 I felt like I\u2019d won the lottery by turning just another day older (and maybe I had\u2026 see the statistic above about dying by slipping in the bathtub).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3160\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2012\/04\/photo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3160\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3160\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2012\/04\/photo-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2012\/04\/photo-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2012\/04\/photo.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3160\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Flowers left by my friend Jackie-- there&#039;s a princess balloon!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>So anyway, that was the big event of last week.\u00a0 Otherwise, I just had my standard meetings and a Macroeconomics midterm on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Stay happy out there!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FUTURE CLASS OF 2016!
