{"id":2633,"date":"2012-02-03T20:58:16","date_gmt":"2012-02-04T01:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/?p=2633"},"modified":"2012-02-03T20:58:16","modified_gmt":"2012-02-04T01:58:16","slug":"thelittlethings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/2012\/02\/03\/thelittlethings\/","title":{"rendered":"#thelittlethings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi!<\/p>\n<p>This week was a whirlwind, friends.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been brainstorming and trying to remember how I spent the last seven days, but for the most part all that I can recall is a haze of class, meals, and sleep.<\/p>\n<p>The first week of class after shopping period is always a bit of a slap in the face.\u00a0 After having a month off from school for break, it can be difficult adjusting to being back on campus.\u00a0 Since the last week doesn\u2019t really form a continuous narrative in my memory, here are a couple of random moments from the past few days that stood out to me for one reason or another.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, January 30, 2012:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Monday I had to wake up early to \u201cposter\u201d the yard, which really just means taping flyers to bulletin boards and kiosks.\u00a0 Since I was already awake and out of the Quad, I enjoyed hot breakfast in Annenberg (the freshman dining hall) with some friends.\u00a0 It might not sound like a significant moment to you, but hot breakfast is kind of a big deal around here.\u00a0 Hot breakfast means eggs (any way you want them!), bacon, breakfast sandwiches, etc. as opposed to muffins and cereal. It was a superb way to jump-start my Manic Monday.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2635\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2012\/02\/Annenberg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2635\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2635\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2012\/02\/Annenberg-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Annenberg Hall\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2012\/02\/Annenberg-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2012\/02\/Annenberg.jpg 741w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2635\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Annenberg Hall (the freshman dining hall and proud provider of hot breakfast!)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, January 31, 2012:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I had one hour of class.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think that I need to justify why this was a bright moment in my week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, February 1, 2012:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wednesday afternoon I remembered that I had BoardPlus credit!\u00a0 BoardPlus is essentially free money.\u00a0 Every semester Harvard loads $65 of Board Plus on every student\u2019s Harvard I.D.\u00a0 You can use BoardPlus credit in place of cash\/credit at certain locations on campus.\u00a0 With the start of the new semester, I had $65 fresh dollars in my account, so I treated myself to a large FREE caf\u00e9 americano at the Barker Center Caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, February 2, 2012:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thursday evening I had my first section meeting for my history class on the British Empire.\u00a0 Section is basically an hour-long session during which a small group of students meets with a Teaching Fellow (TF) to further discuss the readings\/lectures for classes with larger enrollments.\u00a0 \u00a0I don\u2019t usually have a lot of sections because History and Literature courses tend to be offered as seminars.\u00a0 Seminars usually have a maximum of 15 people, so there\u2019s no need to breakdown into sections.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, I was dreading having to add an extra hour of class to my schedule.\u00a0 However, it turns out that section was actually a good time!\u00a0 The TF is young, spunky, and easygoing.\u00a0 She\u2019s a History of Science grad student with a focus on madness and mental illness in Britain.\u00a0 How cool is that? She\u2019s also British, which is a nice touch considering the subject of the class.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, February 3, 2012:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t have class on Fridays, so that\u2019s reason enough to celebrate.\u00a0 I spent the entire day de-stressing and rewarding myself for surviving the first week of work.\u00a0 I went to Newbury Street for a hair appointment, and then I wandered up and down Newbury Street and Boylston Street to explore the shops.\u00a0 I cannot imagine a better way to end the week.\u00a0 It\u2019s great how it\u2019s the little things that really stick with you when everything is said and done.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2634\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2012\/02\/newburystreetboston_30x40.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2634\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2634\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2012\/02\/newburystreetboston_30x40-300x223.jpg\" alt=\"Newbury Street Boston by Celia Judge\" width=\"300\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2012\/02\/newburystreetboston_30x40-300x223.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/collegeadmissionsstudentblog\/files\/2012\/02\/newburystreetboston_30x40.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2634\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An oil painting of Newbury Street by Celia Judge<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Until next week!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi!
