{"id":9,"date":"2014-07-19T22:51:05","date_gmt":"2014-07-19T22:51:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/chronicles\/?p=9"},"modified":"2014-08-20T04:30:15","modified_gmt":"2014-08-20T04:30:15","slug":"the-dream-that-fades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/chronicles\/2014\/07\/19\/the-dream-that-fades\/","title":{"rendered":"The Dream That Fades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You know it was a dream<\/p>\n<p>Because you woke up<\/p>\n<p>To your tightly gripping reality<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was deceptive<\/p>\n<p>All that freedom you saw to fly<\/p>\n<p>To discover, to belong, and to own.<\/p>\n<p>All that freedom you saw to go forth<\/p>\n<p>Into the world and thither home.<\/p>\n<p>The beautiful lands you saw<\/p>\n<p>Were a dream.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Because in the vice of your reality<\/p>\n<p>There is no freedom.<\/p>\n<p>In the gripping abjection of a poverty<\/p>\n<p>That despises your dreams,<\/p>\n<p>Derides your desires<\/p>\n<p>And urges you to cede,<\/p>\n<p>And to hope for a heaven<\/p>\n<p>Like many have for centuries,<\/p>\n<p>There is no freedom.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You know of having the wings<\/p>\n<p>Of possessing the will,<\/p>\n<p>And of calling forth the faith,<\/p>\n<p>But of failing to fly<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You watch your faith fade,<\/p>\n<p>And your will weaken.<\/p>\n<p>You see your feathers loose youth,<\/p>\n<p>You fear the end.
