Normality

I feel we are getting into the swing of things a bit better. I’ve just managed to download a few photos, and here I am blogging them in the present, rather than retro-blogging them much later.

Firstly, here’s me and Tycho making Anzac biscuits (cookies in US-speak.)

And here is our very helpful household help person (courtesy of the New Zealand government) Chookie with the hordes.

Everything old is new again

I had an interesting conversation at playcentre today (on our third free visit). As I pushed a nice young man named Taylor in a swing, he began to count.

Taylor: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, twenty. Does fifteen come before twenty?

Greg: Sixteen.

Taylor: Sixteen. What comes after sixteen?

Greg: Seventeen.

Taylor: Seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty one, twenty two, twenty three, twenty four, twenty five, twenty six, twenty seven, twenty eight, twenty nine. (pauses)

Greg: Thirty.

Taylor: Thirty, thirty one, thirty two, thirty three, thirty four, thirty five, thirty six, thirty seven, thirty eight, thirty nine. (pauses again)

Greg: Forty.

Taylor: Forty, forty one, forty two, forty three, forty four, forty five, forty six, forty seven, forty eight, forty nine. (another pause)

Greg: Fifty.

Taylor: Fifty, fifty one, fifty two, fifty three, fifty four. It keeps going one, two, three, four, over and over again. I wonder why it does that?

Greg: (Tries to think of a reply to this rather deep question…)

Taylor: Where was I up to?

Greg: Fifty one?

Taylor: Fifty one, fifty two, fifty three, fifty four. That’s right, I was up to fifty four. Fifty four, fifty five, fifty six, fifty seven, fifty eight, fifty nine. Thirty, thirty one, thirty two, thirty three, thirty four, thirty five, thirty six, thirty seven, thirty eight, thirty nine, ninety. I already said ninety before twenty.

I believe this one is from May 21, 2005.  Thanks, Kat, for coming to the rescue when Tycho needed a friend.  Also, happy birthday for the day before that!

Yris, Agustin and Sebastian

Monday, August 7th, 2006

During our last few months in Los Alamos, Tycho spent three mornings a week with Yris from Bolivia, and her two boys Agustin and Sebastian.  He had a lot of fun.  Here are the three boys on April 14:

Retro blogging

Since Kendra is doing such a fine job blogging all the news, I’ve been wondering what to blog about. I’ve realised that our archive of digital photos is a bit of a mess, and many good ones have never been published on the web. So, I’m going to go through the archive making a bit more sense of it, and while Kendra blogs the present I’ll blog some interesting moments from the past.

First off, from June 17 this year, some photos by our friend Cydney.  A self-portrait:

And one of a highly-amused Halen:
