In<br \/>\nthe past few years I (and I&#8217;m speaking as a lunatic liberal here) have<br \/>\nfound WBUR&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onpointradio.org\/\">On Point<\/a><br \/>\nnotably partisan. Tom Ashbrook relies far too heavily on prompting his<br \/>\nguests, &#8220;How about that?&#8221; to keep the conversation going without<br \/>\nbetraying any knowledge of the subject. But the real problem is his<br \/>\nguest pundit and liberal lap-dog, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/about\/people\/jbbio.htm\">Jack Beatty<\/a>, whose <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomaspmbarnett.com\/weblog\/archives\/000439.html\">uninformed<\/a> opinion-spinning and tendency to twist any topic into an attack on George W. Bush makes him (and his <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Atlantic Monthly<\/span>) a cornerstone of the reactionary left.<\/p>\n<p>I mention this now because WBUR, apparently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonmagazine.com\/ArticleDisplay.php?id=510\">struggling to make ends meet<\/a>, has been forced to cut back its programming and took the axe to <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Connection<\/span>. Now <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Connection<\/span><br \/>\nmay not be what it was in its Christopher Lyden days, but the show is<br \/>\nat least unemcumbered by a partisan hack sidekick. If WBUR had to find<br \/>\nsome way to save money, why not sack the apparently underemployed <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Atlantic Monthly<\/span> editor?\n<\/p>\n<p>A final thought: searching for &#8220;WBUR&#8221; on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=wbur\">Google<\/a> puts <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Connection<\/span> one rank ahead of <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">On Point<\/span>.\n<\/p>\n<p>(For the record: I am a card-carrying, dues-paying WBUR member.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s not just Big Bird Haters who think that PBS and NPR are a haven for lunatic liberals.
