{"id":363,"date":"2008-03-26T10:51:59","date_gmt":"2008-03-26T14:51:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/anderkoo\/2008\/03\/26\/progressive-evangelicals-a-major-for"},"modified":"2011-06-18T23:31:52","modified_gmt":"2011-06-19T03:31:52","slug":"progressive-evangelicals-a-major-force-for-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/anderkoo\/2008\/03\/progressive-evangelicals-a-major-force-for-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Progressive evangelicals a major force for change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Published today in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/bostonglobe\/editorial_opinion\/letters\/articles\/2008\/03\/26\/progressive_evangelicals_a_major_force_for_change\/\">Boston Globe<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>    I was among the young Christians who traveled to Park Street Church last month to hear Jim Wallis\u2019s call for social justice (\u201d<a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/bostonglobe\/editorial_opinion\/oped\/articles\/2008\/03\/12\/a_new_generation_awakens\/\">A New Generation Awakens<\/a>,\u201d March 12), and I can testify that a generational shift is indeed underway within American Christianity.<\/p>\n<p>    In fact, the Boston Faith + Justice Network, which also hosted an event with Mr. Wallis in Boston, is bringing together evangelical and mainline Christians to alleviate global poverty. Through Bible studies, we see our consumer habits in light of Scripture\u2019s concern for the poor. As we awake to the global impact of our lifestyle, we are working for shifts in corporate and public policy to more justly steward and share our resources.<\/p>\n<p>    Still, many of my secular neighbors and friends consider \u201cprogressive evangelicals\u201d mythical, even oxymoronic.
